Some feature ideas / questions

I sold my Squid for a Squarp and this is the feature I miss the most. Would absoultley love to see it show up on the Hapax someday.

it would be great, if

  • a project could include carious saved states instead of having numerous variations in the SAVED PROJECTS list

  • or at least if we could sort the projects by date

or folders!

i do miss the possibility to select each 2nd, 3rd, 4th, etc step and microshift them simultaneously.

We then would have "STOLPERBEATS’ grooves in the Hapax.

Those “arrows”…grrr… it would be great, if in the FX MATRIX the left and right columns could be set with 2 knobs.
For the source with 2 knobs left from the display, for destination with 2 knobs right from the display.

No more arrows

To make it more clear:

Source and Destonation have 2 columns each.
For each column there should be a knob, to make this jumping in and out with the arrows unnecessary

4 requests from me:

  1. 16 patterns per track
  2. Per note track length and direction (like Deluge)
  3. Arranger similar to Deluge/Play
  4. Preview note in Step mode

Love the machine so far and only just getting to know it, so let me know if any of the above is possible.

How does this work? Do you have a video link? thanks

Check out the sequencer section, it’s only for the drum lanes, not melodic sequencer. But yeah this would be a sick feature in Hapax too.

One more request:
I would love a note fold option similar to Ableton’s piano grid where by after you input a bunch of steps in the sequence, press the fold button and it removes all the unused note lanes. Scales gets you some of the way there but you can see transposed notes in the same range that easily without zooming out.

i watched it, it’s cool, but nothing beats the TORAIZ SQUID for polyrhythm stuff
you can just deactivate any(!) step and they will be subtracted from your 16, 32, 48, 64 steps.
So deactivate one from 16 and you get a 15 step pattern etc etc.
Or you can mute them and they will not be skipped, but you still get a total different patterns as slides, playmodes (and it got very cool playmodes!) etc work different.
(btw on the HAPAX unfortunaletly we can’t even select a custom number of steps but also ones in a row. So no “any 2nd”, “any 3rd” fand orget about “any you want”)

Great moment in the video: DELUGE lets you record 999 bars. I like the guys approach so much, he always goes for the max possibilities to let his customers be as creative as they want without limiting them for no reason.

Yeah it’s a maximalist approach to features but as a previous Deluge user, I think the overload of functionality ruin the machine. Tbh if the Deluge brain was in the Hapax hardware, then I think it’s my perfect machine. Seriously the layout of the Hapax is simply spot on. I get why sampling / audio was excluded but if it had that spec - it’ll absolutely have been the best box out there.

However, Hapax still has the potential, and is on the cusp, of being the best midi/cv sequencer out there. And I don’t think there a huge number of big features needed to get there. Still getting my head around the basics and really how best to allocate tracks for my own personal setup. But I couldnt ask for a better hardware layout! Such a good job from Squarp, and the OS, even it’s current state, seems pretty stable and powerful.

Looking forward to the future of this box!

Obviously it’s up to Squarp how transparent they want to be about their plans for Hapax, but its a shame that there is such a disconnect between the contact page, which is the official way to make feature requests, and forum threads here.

I loooove how the developer of Loopy Pro handles his roadmap and feature requests here: https://roadmap.loopypro.com

Voting + comments ftw

fantastic, wow - yes, this is how it should be.

for many instruments i own it is the opposite unfortunately

A shame and a disconnect?? Definitely not, it’s a choice and a choice a company like Squarp is allowed to make as it’s their company. Would I like to see a fully open roadmap with dot voting and all? Sure! But to call it a shame or saying this is how it should be is a bit much IMO.

The Squarp guys are very responsive and engaged in the forum and requests are usually quickly responded to.

i’m sure Freqout didn’t mean it in a disrespectful way, at least i did not read it so. A company has two sides, one is “the customers” and we are not just customers but also put in ideas, time, etc, which in the end helps the company again with the sales . So it is great, if this communication is setup in a way like shown in Freqouts link. We should keep out the old “entitlement” discussion and concentrate on the constructive aspects of postings.

Hey everyone,

Opening our roadmap has been discussed at length before, and today the point of view of the company is to not make it public. I know it can be disappointing to some. However, I’d rather be clear on our intention not to open our roadmap than mislead people into hoping it’s coming.

Here’s a similar message from February:

Thanks I didn’t know it had been discussed before. Since you fix bugs very quick your “un-open” approach regarding new extra features has to be accepted. Thanks for clearing it up again.

+1 on accumulator request. loving this on my metropolix and cirklon has similar!
