Hi!!
It would be so cool to see the Topographic Sequencer like Grids from mutable instruments implemented as a midi effect…
It’l like a map with lot of sequences with 3 channels… You can move accross X and Y axis… You can change the density of each channel… and there is a chaos knob to maake it more interesting…
for something like that which is a bit more visual and would work well on the hapax screens I suggest a cartesian sequencer like Mimetic Digitalis or Carpeggio on the ornament & crime hemispheres firmware!
Also while we’re at it we need a shift register/turing machine on hapax heheh
I’m still on my Oxi vs Hapax comparison and those generative features are great to have there. Especially Grids is cool and also open source (thx Émilie), so mbe if there’s space on Hapax it could be implemented
also what would be great: a euclidian generator on Mono Tracks, where we can set pitch however we like (or even put FX on too)
This sounds cool. I think one of the reasons we might see Squarp spool out certain things slowly like pattern lengths and number of patterns is to be able to accomodate things like this.
It seems like a majority of the Grids clones, even the software versions, stick to the same basic format of the original Eurorack module. One of the few exceptions I’ve been able to locate is the Beat Map rack extension made for Reason.
This version seems to be an attempt to make the Grids concept more “user-friendly” in some ways. Instead of there being general “X” and “Y” parameters that cover all drum parts, there are discrete “X” and “Y” parameters for each individual drum part, making it easy to mix and match. Also, in addition to knobs for kick, snare, and hat, there is a fourth knob for percussion. All the Grids clones I’ve seen so far only have kick, hat, and snare (like the original).
But the feature on Beat Map that intrigues me most (and I’d like to see somthing similar implemented if Squarp decides to make their own version of Grids) is the “mirror” parameter. The commentary goes into detail about how the mirror function works at the 6:30 mark. Adding something like this makes for more varied and complex beats.
Anyway, my point is not that Squarp should copy the Reason Beat Map exactly. I just hope the devs feel inspired to make something more than just a carbon copy of the original Grids module (assuming they are doing so in the first place), introducing a variation or two that can add a little extra to the beat making process.
I’d be interested in hearing from someone who has experience with the Grids module as well. I’ve watched about 20 videos featuring Grids, but Eurorack isn’t my thing or else I probably would have purchased it by now. The closest experience I’ve had to using Grids is the drum pattern generator on the Oxi Once. Which, from my understanding, is closely modeled after the original.
