Hi, I’m a potential purchaser. I looked in the manual but still wasn’t sure of the answer.
I want to loop drums and but then have longer tracks playing over the top, especially with long automation. Imagine a drum loop but then a long synth chord that fades in over say five minutes. I can do this with backing tracks but I’d like to be able to tweak the synth live.
Back in the day I could do this kind of thing easily on my Ensoniq SD and I can do it easily in Logic, but this is for a live setup and I don’t really want my laptop on stage.
Is this possible with Hapax or even Pyramid? Can i run pattern tracks and song length automation at the same time?
Potentially solving my own problem, can i not make a very long pattern that contains only note on data at the start, then run a volume automation across say 100 bars?
Given each pattern has a 32-bar limit, you could try a mix of the following to get more length from a pattern: try having note data one one track with INF note length, with automation/cc data on another track set to 32 bars with elasticity of 50% (so I suppose that would be effective 64 bars), then chain patterns with follow actions if you need longer automation (e.g. cc 0-31 on one pattern, 32-63 on another etc.).
For Hapax anyway – I don’t know if this limitation exists in the Pyramid.
I asked to Squarp if they can do a way to WRITE the final song to something independant of pattern and then you can write long automations or add some notes or anything without destroying the original patterns
That was how it works on RM1X for exemple. Actually the only solution seems either to copy your pattern tons of times or to copy its lenght
But making it much longer can be annoying later if you want to change a detail in the loop
Another solution would be a 32 tracks mode so you can use 16 for loops, and 16 for long automation parts
Yeah I really hope Squarp will add something similar to the arranger mode of the Deluge. This would show a horizontal timeline of clips on the grid where you can manually put down clips or record clips and automation into it/on top of it.
That would be really great for actually finishing songs, but also for live performances where you need your hands to do other stuff.
It could just be an additional mode, on top of the current song mode
