Size of hapax screens

I’d like to get a proper screen protector. Can anyone tell me the exact dimensions of the displays? Surprisingly I can’t seem to find it online. Seems about 73 x 46mm
Some 3.5 inch screen protectors are close. So I could trim them down…
I see hapax has a protect for 10 euros each but it’s €24.15. I could get 2x on amazon for less than $10… anyone find a perfect fit?

UPDATE found this one Amazon Japan
SANWA SUPPLY DG – lck35 W LCD Protection Glossy Film (3.5 Wide)
Looks about perfect: 7.8L x 4.5W cm. Maybe just need to trim 5m off the long end.

Also this oneSony PCK-LS35W 45.6mmx 79.1mm
and Kenko LCD Protective Film LCD Protector Panasonic Wide LCD for EPV – pa35 W – AFP ((78.0 x 44.0 mm)

BTW Some phone screen protectors are glass, which you won’t be able to easily trim!

protect the screen from what?

the screen is already protected by the plastic material that is embedded in the outer casing (the actual screen is a recessed a bit deeper inside the chassis)
anything not exactly the same dimensions (incl corner radius) will look horrible, so I wouldn’t go and trim stuff by hand

as it is not a touch screen, and you are not storing the hapax inside your pocket with your keys, a screen protector seems rather pointless?

just wear silk gloves and a facemask at all times when you use your hapax, you’ll be fine

i bought cell phone protectors cheap and trimmed them down carefully. i do this for all my gear. its easy and you can get some good deals on protectors

Shit happens. I’d rather spend a few bucks now than have to replace the display later — to take a hit on resale value.

See:

I’m not sure how you use your Hapax, but I use mine with a modular system so the metal tips of cables could easily drop down on it. Also, travel can be rough on gear. In a club environment you’re not in control of everything and another performer or technician could drop something or drag a cable across it.

The factory film is not a proper protector. It’s thin and soft and does offer some minimal protection but it didn’t even survive the trip from the factory without getting scratched! It arrived damaged. So good luck raw dogging it.

I think there’s a misunderstanding caused by not agreeing on terms.
I’ll use the terms that we use internally:

The OLED display, or screen looks like this:

The display has a scratch-resistant glass layer on top of the bare OLED panel.

The factory screen protectors look like this:

The screen protectors are shipped with a thin film layer on top, which we leave during assembly and shipping, to avoid any accumulation of dust and micro-scratches on the screen assembly.

I think what @rv0 tried to get across is that the actual OLED display is already protected by the factory screen protector, while @maxhodges wants to keep the overall assembly pristine, including the screen protectors.

For information we do sell spare parts, screen protectors is one of them (as @maxhodges noted, they are currently priced at 10€), replacement OLED displays is another. So changing the screen protector on your unit is an option.

But I get it, there’s no guarantee on the availability of these spare parts, what happens if you need them in 10 or 20 years?
For that reason, going for an off-the-shelf protector on top of the factory one is a safe and simple bet.

In terms of dimensions, here’s the spec we provide to our supplier:

Let me know if I can be of further help

Thanks for the info! Actually, I didn’t realize that the top surface was actually a protector! Thanks for pointing that out. In that case, yeah, I can be less worried about it. I didn’t realize the screen protectors you sold were actually already installed!

How to install the replacement screen protectors? just pry out the old ones with a small screw driver or blade?

Cheers!

I would not recommend using metal tools to pry it out. Plastic tools would cause less damage.

What we usually do is unscrew the front panel using a Torx T6 screwdriver, then applying pressure to the screen protectors from behind.

I replaced my screens and later swapped to the silver faceplate, I have to say the Hapax is beautifully designed and built, Squarp service is fantastic. Its not often you are impressed when you take something apart, the Hapax is really thoughtfully designed, its gorgeous. Good work

I just dropped a Roland s1 (1/6 of what my Hapax cost) and cracked the screen. Shit does happen and i need a replacement screen now.
