Are you able to set a number of steps for a pattern length that is <16 in a way other than using the arrow buttons to loop a specific section?
As I understand it, drum tracks can not have individual lane lengths (this is a unfortunate) - but what are the options for having track/pattern lengths be <16?
For another dirty way by setting a loop end, you can hold the right arrow and press a number on the tracks at top. so for 5 step pattern press and hold right arrow and track 5.
Thank you very much @josker ! If you don’t mind, could you possibly answer 1 more question for me about the pattern mode?
If you have a pattern currently playing - say for example pattern 1 on track 1. Is it possible to create a new pattern on the same track and make changes to it before launching the new pattern? Like silently editing it the 2nd pattern while the first pattern plays on the same track.
I know that you can copy the same pattern on the same track, but is it possible to go in and make edits to that copy without launching it?
I don’t think that’s possible, even though it would be nice. A workaround would be to dedicate another track to the same instrument. When you want to transition to a slightly altered pattern:
Copy Pattern 1, track 1 to pattern 2, track 2 (pattern 2 for clarity)
I always assumed there was a way to select a pattern to edit without triggering it, and I just hadn’t learnt the button combo yet. If this is indeed not possible, it seems like a major oversight to me / a core function. Given that the hapax is touted as a live performance sequencer (and I’m sure I’m not the only person here trying to do live improv stuff)
I agree, I was a bit bummed out when I realized this also.
Another “workaround” is using dual projects, but has mostly the same limitations.
I would guess that the changes involved to allow editing a pattern that isn’t actively playing would be significant and have cascading UI issues so I’m not holding my breath on this and trying to work within the limitations.
thank you for the video
But according to manual, I understood that with current fw version, Hapax is not able to have length based on steps like hermod had instead of bards?
or is it a pending feature?
I’m considering buying hapax but I don’t have it yet… but as I was told… hapax is not working in the same way as hermod…
Ah, I think I understand a little better now! I’ll try to go point by point.
As I’m reading , Hapax actually does quantize the length of the recording to a specific bar length. So while it would record your feel from playing unquantized as you would expect, the length of the recorded sequence will be set to whatever the closest bar amount would be - which means that either some notes may be cut off or there would be empty space.
And this is the main difference with hermod. Old Hermod did where the loop is more precise (set in steps vs bar).
I know that afterwards you can modify the pattern/step length after the fact and the notes that were cut off will be there. But it’s not the same for me. In fact it’s a big difference if you like to work on the fly with more freedom creating pattern lengths about something you played.
I hope Squarp ends up changing this. I don’t know if it’s a declared bug o a still missing feature. But I really hope they add it
