I’m trying to set-up my studio so that my Pyramid will start/stop my synths - I have this working by going:
Settings > Midi Out
Midi A Sync = Send
Midi A Start/Stop = Send
Now if I hit hit play or stop on my Pyramid the internal sequencer on both my TD-3 and TR8S start and stop as expected.
The catch is, their playback is waaaaay too fast. I have the BPM on the Pyramid at 120 and can program these synths via Pyramid fine at that BPM - but I’m looking to take advantage of some patches on my TD-3 that I want to jam with and I can’t because it’s so fast.
I have to drop the BPM on the Pyramid to like 30 bpm to get near what sounds liken120 bpm, which doesn’t feel right.
Per usual I’m sure I’m missing something simple here, appreciate any guidance you can give, cheers!
I’m a little closer to figuring this out, will document my journey here for people of the future who may run into something similar.
All my synths are running their MIDI into a Midi Interface (Mio XL) and from there I have the Mio going into MIDI A on the Pyramid.
As an experiment I ran MIDI in from the TD-3 directly in MIDI B (and A) and the BPM was as expected and not sped up. So the MIO XL appears to be the culprit here - will look into from that angle now.
Sounds like you have at least 2 devices sending midi clock and it is merged somewhere (in the MIO?) or you have a Midi loop (combination is possible)
You say all synths go into the MIO and then into Pyramid. Make sure the Pyramid MIDI OUTs are configured as OUT (and not OUT+THRU) in settings.
Also try to think about if it is necessary to connect the midi outs of your synths (usually it isn’t)
Thanks very much for your replies @vt100 and @rv0 you’re likely correct on the merged midi clocks.
It’s a bit of a MIDI rats nest with my MIO, I have a lot going into my main MIO XL preset (where all midi gets routed, in a software called Auricle) - I’ll create a new preset and add synths etc. one at a time to try and find the culprit(s). This is also the suggestion iConnectivity Support gave as well.
In the meantime to not lose my inspiration I’m now going directly from the TD-3 to the Pyramid via MIDI B and everything starts / stops on time and is in sync (no clock merge possible there). I also have TD-3 plugged into computer via USB to record the MIDI notes from the patterns on TD-3.
