I’m trying to work out my favorite strategy for organizing patterns on my Hapax and I’m curious how others are working. Here are some of the options I’ve seen
-
Use the rows of patterns to progress through the song. In this situation, in a row, you have 16 different patterns to launch. Each row can introduce or remove elements.
-
Treat each track as its own set of progressions, more programmatically launching patterns and using pattern follow actions. For moving through a song you’d use the “section” feature and each section is a mix of what patterns you want to launch and those patterns working through their follow actions.
These seem like the two major modalities of organization. Is there one I’m missing? Or a reason to focus on one modality over another?
Another thing that has been interesting is to create one track for notes and a second track for automation to the same instrument. This gives me the ability to launch a delay effect on the instrument when I might like; instead of it being programmed on the notes themselves. This has led to some interesting play between different notes and different algorithms live.
