Lately, I’ve stayed off my computer for music making. But there’s a lot of hype going on about Omniverse 3.
When I do occasionally go back to my computer, it’s Reaper with Phase Plant, Analog Lab 3, and SoftTube virtual instruments, and Musio. So I feel pretty well-covered.
Is anyone an Omniverse user here? Any reason for me and others to have FOMO?
No Trial version of Omniverse, 80 G footprint, and almost $500 is a big ask to check it out.
Thanks,
Joe
Think you mean Omnisphere
V3 is excellent. It’s a definite step up from V2 despite looking very similar in terms of UI. it’s as deep as you possibly want a soft synth to be
How strong is the quality of the sounds. IMO, Phase Plant and SoftTube are head and shoulder above other VSTs for feel and sound quality. I’m not too snobby about this, I like other soft synths. But there is a difference.
I’m not sure how you would measure something being strong in terms of the sound, I mean it can literally do anything. It’s important to know that Omni is a rompler style synth with lots of bells and whistles. I’ve used it for 10+ years, since it was called Atmosphere, and it’s always covered any sound need a person could want. It’s one of the most popular synths out there, and costs what it does for a reason - they never sale and that’s never been a problem for the company, which says a lot given they’ve been in business for well over 20 years. There are many other soft synths that can do great stuff (Serum, Uhe products, Arturia products etc.), but few few that have the same depth of capabilities as Omnisphere.
Thanks, what I mean by “strong” is probably better expressed as “feel”. As soon as I play my Oberheim OB-6 synth, there is a feel there you don’t get in software. Great VSTs from SoftTube come closest. ROMpler software, not so much.
Ok, understood. Well you would likely get a more organic sounding analogue imitation from Diva or perhaps Softube synths, but it’s pretty damn close. Omni is unbelievable when it comes to live instrument stuff and has ridiculously good hybrid style sounds. You’ve really have to hear it for yourself.
Perhaps see if you know someone that can let you install it for a test period - I have a licence and have it installed on 2 machines, so it is possible to try it out that way
