1). Is there a way to check the firmware level? I just got a new one and I installed it and I’m lazy and would like to not pull it out to flash it to only find out its already up-to-date
2). Has anyone had any experience with the TipTop Audio ART environment? Either the Octopus MIDI / USB to ART device or the 1V/Oct to ART with the Hermod+?

You don’t need to “pull out” the module to flash it. You just need to pull out the microSD card.
Updating Hermod+
drag the “hermodplus.bin” file into the SD card (do not change the file name)
insert the SD card in Hermod+
power on Hermod+ while holding the main encoder and wait for the flashing procedure to complete.
Can also check the version. I think in track mode → Press the Y button to open the global settings menu then → INFO

Completely power down your Hermod+.H old down the main encoder while powering the device on.Wait a few seconds for the initialization; your current firmware version will appear right on the startup screen.
