Is gate length taken into account?

Hi there,
I’m considering buying a Rample, but I was wondering if samples are simply triggered (from the beginning to the end) or if using gates as input is possible (to make shorter hits).
Hopefully I didn’t miss the info when reading the manual.

Thanks.

Hi,

There’s a run mode which does take the gate into account:

run mode
[…]
gate high only: sample played only when gate is high

You’ll find more detail in the “Advanced parameters” section of the manual: Rample Manual | Squarp instruments

Ha, I indeed missed it ! Thanks for the answer.
So when using this mode, the decay stage is triggered at gate low ? So basically the gate controls a ASR envelope ? What happens if the gate gets low before the end of the Attack stage ?

No, this mode is essentially a hard ON/OFF on top of the envelope shaping that takes place with the ENV parameter.

Please note the ENV parameter itself is not an ASR, and could be described as either “Attack-Sustain” (counter clockwise portion), or “Decay”(clockwise portion).
For a more flexible envelope setup, it’s recommended to use an external envelope and VCA.

Outch, thanks for the clarification. Cancelling my order, unfortunately, as it’s critical to me.
A hard ON/OFF on top of the VCA must be clicking as hell, isn’t it ?

No, it’s smoothed enough to not click

Well, cancelling my cancellation then !

Get that Rample! I have four and I love them!
