How to use an external controller with the Hapax?

Hello,

I’m trying to use an external controller with 5 faders to control parameters on the Hapax or devices connected to the Hapax. Unfortunately, when I try to use the Matrix FX for this, my tracks usually have instrument definitions and when I select the CC as SOURCE, the CC values are showing the mappings from the instrument definiton which to me sounds a bit strange, not sure why you’d want to route a CC from a midi source back to it.

In a nutshell, how can I map the CC values of my external controller (which are fixed) to certain parameters inside a track on the Hapax?

If I understand your question, this is not something currently supported within Hapax. Hapax does not have any MIDI Control/Implemantation (ie there are no CC routings to control Hapax Parameters). It is something that has been requested and is hopeful in a future update.

That’s not what exactly what I meant. I have an external midi controller plugged in to the USB device port (like shown in the product flyer on the website) and I want to use it to control other devices, the MIDI goes through the Hapax to whichever other device is expecting that input, but I can’t remap the values (on the HAPAX) sent from this MIDI controller to do specific things on the destination midi device.

I haven’t tried to do this myself, so I cannot offer any advice from personal experience. But if you haven’t seen this video already (or if you haven’t already tried this technique), here’s an example of Jeremy doing what I think it is you’re trying to do (at the 29:03 mark):

I think this works in some cases, but I think the problem is that if that if the source CC is also a legit CC used by the synth it will also be overridden in terms of automation on the track itself, etc. collisions possible, seems messy. I’m surprised this isn’t a core feature. I haven’t thought about it because I use my OB-6 as a keyboard controller and don’t use a parameter controller at all. Possibly I’m missing something.

OP: Assign mode will do this to some extent, gives you 8 knobs on the hapax per track to tweak and record as you go. If that works for you it might be the best workflow option for the time being. Hopefully they add a more fully-fledge controller mapping system in a future update.

The answer is Blome midi translator, Blokas midi hub. They can remap the CC. Its cheaper to get a midi controller with free assignable CC.

N32B is good an can route to midi in A and USB host.

Actually it works perfectly when CONSUME is ON, I was trying it with MIDI VOLUME CC (again, not changeable by my fader controller) and that was messing with my expectations.

dumb question… where is CONSUME found? Is that a setting?

The CONSUME parameter is found in the effects Matrix assignment page.
