I have been using the Chord mode a lot. I understand the alterations but what I don’t really like sometimes is the sound of the 6/9 alteration. It removes the 7th, and a lot of times I want either a min9 or a min7+9. The 6 can be quite cool, sometimes, but not always for me. What I like to do is get a chord like that going and then try a bunch of different inversions and other alterations until I find something that works for me. I am just a bit surprised that there is a 6/9 and then a Kenny Barron voicing with the 11, but making a classic 9 chord is not an available alteration. Is there a reason for this that I am missing?
So the other alternative is just to play the 9th chord on my keyboard and then trigger it with a note or something. I believe that is possible in step mode, correct? My only issue with this is I really like to tweak the alterations of the chord after and try different inversions, spread, root notes..etc.
Does anyone else like to compose deep house on hapax,I am curious how you all go about it without the 9th chord alteration. I only make this post to learn and also because I think the chord mode on hapax is very close to being top tier, but I think it needs more alterations and also a way to humanize the timing and velocity a little so it doesn’t feel so blocky when you trigger a chord. But I already made a thread on that one.
