Hapax not forwarding kick signal from midi in

Hi,

I have a Vermona DRM and a Yamaha DTX Multi 12 which I use to drum in my drum lines.

I’m able to assign every midi note to an individual sound and am able to play my patterns, although the kick from the Vermona only reacts when a midi note is played from the Hapax itself but not when played on the Yamaha.

The Yamaha sends out midi signal on channel 10 and the Hapax sends on channel 8. This shouldn’t make a difference though.

When connecting the Yamaha straight into the Vermona and assigning all the midi notes to the right sounds, everyhting works perfectly.

To recapitulate, I’m able to play in every sound, apart from the kick.

Ps. I’m on vacation in France right now, hence the travel setup  have the same problem in the studio.

Thanks in advance for any help!

I just noticed that the Hapax is also not receiving the kick notes, which is strange since when the Yamah is plugged straight into the vermona, everyhting works.

Both the pedal and the kick pad are set to C1 (see photo) but they both have an asterix behind the note parameter where other pads don’t.

I still asume the problem is probably more on Hapax’s side since the direct midi connection works…

Thanks!

because of the way Hapax maps midi note values relative to other gear’s own maps, “C1” on Hapax may not correspond to C1 on the Yamaha. try shifting Hapax to C3 (i believe the gap is two octaves)

I just changed the kick pad and pedal to C3 while simultaneously changing the note on the Hapax’s drum channel to the same note but without succes.

What I do notice is that when hitting the kick pad, the Hapax visualises a receiving a note but note sending it. This in contrast with the other pads where it visualises both.

None of the Kick’s midi is even recorded into the Hapax’s sequencer.

Can you show the midi settings of the Hapax track?

when i’ve been struggling to find the correct Hapax note value, i just go to the Live mode Keyboard and scroll up and down all the octaves pressing notes until i hear it actually hit (worst case, assuming all the midi is routed as it should)

Have you used the midi monitor with Shift-Live to see what is going on?

This is a great tip.

Yes. So all the pads translate th incoming midi from channel 10 to channel 8 to the Vermona, except for the kick pad.

When playing the kick note in Live mode it does however trigger a note on the Vermona.

The kick trig on the hapax was set to a different note… That’s why it didn’t trigger…

Thanks for the help y’all!
