Hapax Beat Repeat Effect?

I’m wondering if I can create a midi-effect change that is similar to an audio beat-repeater or freeze delay—meaning one where when I press & hold a button, a subdivision of my pattern is repeated until I release that button.

I was originally thinking I could achieve this by using a Filter effect into a Delay effect both with the Toggle On/Off mapped to the Fill button. My thought was that I would use the filter to turn off incoming notes and the delay would indefinitely repeat whatever the last note played was before the filter was applied. However, the Filter takes effect immediately so all notes are blocked from reaching the Delay.

Is there a better way to approach this kind of effect?

You probably already are aware of this but you can use loop points. The manual does suggest using them for beat-repeat purposes when performing. Probably not what you are asking for but I figured I’d mention if case you overlooked that. Cool idea for a feature request though! Could be it’s own effect or an enhancement to echo.

That’s a good idea and definitely something that could hold me over for a while!

I still think a Fill-based beat repeat would be cool, since it could be applied while on any other pad-mode / screen.

I just discovered that Blokas has a similar delay effect with an “Overdub” parameter. Based on the documentation it seems like with that set to OFF, no new notes would enter the delay buffer once the delay is turned on. So Squarp, if you’re listening that would be a great feature to add to the echo effect on hapax!
