Hapax as a "midi interface"?

Right now my Hapax is my main midi hub in the studio, meaning all my midi capable devices (synths, drum machines, etc…) are connected to it.
Nonetheless I’d like to use Ableton as midi sequencer as well occasionally.
My question is now what would be a good solution to do this. Would it be possible to route Midi from Ableton thru to those Hapax midi outs?

Ok, I already found it out by myself in the settings. This is really such a good device with all possible routing options! Still would like to know what is your workflow if you are also using the Hapax in a hybrid setup with a DAW.

hello, how did you achieve this?

Point 16.7 of the manual covers the “Midi Thru” settings and there you can define everything to your taste…

I thought I had figured out how to send Midi back from Ableton to my Midi gear via the Hapax. But at my first attempt I just tried it with one track and I was happy.

Now I realize this works only for the track that I currently activate on my Hapax. I can’t figure out how to send Midi to multiple devices at the same time.

Any idea?

i send a pulse wave clock to my hapax from reaper. this goes to the cv input and makes hapax run ultra tight with the DAW without the need to send midi sync to hapax with unreliable jitter etc.

then i send midi from hapax to various destinations either directly via trs/din5 or over usb device to the daw to trigger serum etc or usb host to a synth with usb midi. then reaper mixes everything,

hapax has the compensation capability to defeat latency which can be very exact! very impressive results integrating all sound sources together in time.

you could conceivably add midi from the daw track. you could also use the output midi fx to copy midi to the usb device buss so you can capture midi intended for the trs or din connected instrument! its less awkward this way than hooking everything up to the computer and then out to your synths.

it is best if you have another midi interface for output from the computer. the smallest i have found is the retrokits rk006 with 2 trs inputs and 10 trs outs. thats enough for my kit.

Thanks for posting your (interesting) work flow.
In my case it’s a bit different: I have all my synths and samplers directly hooked to the Hapax. And I am using a little Midi keyboard to play/rec them all via the hapax. Right now all my channels in the Hapax are set to the one of the Midi keyboard. And that’s why Hapax is only playing back on the track that I activated. The workaround is to set all channels in the Hapax to corresponding Midi channels from the DAW. The problem is that that I lose my spontaneous workflow with the Midi in keyboard on just one channel…

the only way i know to do this is sending midi from keyboard to the daw and routing from there. reaper allows you to designate input and output busses/channels so all you would need is to switch the channel the keyboard is outputting. i think this is what you want! i dont think you can achieve this with hapax alone. but im keen to hear what your solution will be!
