Fractal Multiverse of Clocks

I’m trying to understand the variability of certain MIDI effects on the Hapax. Can y’all help me document all the underlying clocks, phasors, etc, is the Hapax using, and what interactions affect them? I’ll try to update this post with discoveries.

This is inspired by my serious confusion on why my “synced and locked” Arp plays different sequences sometimes.

Core:

  • Grid clock: Always running behind the scenes at core BPM
    • Phase reset: STOP+STOP (Unconfirmed)
  • Song position: Progress within Hapax song sequence (NOT MIDI SPP)
    • Phase reset: STOP resets to current section. STOP+STOP resets to song start.
  • Track position: Playhead position within a track’s step pattern
    • Phase reset: While playing, PLAY. While stopped, 2ND+PLAY. Resets all tracks to current page.

Effects:

  • Arp: Progress within Arp pattern.
    • Clock speed: SYNC OFF = Arbitrary. SYNC or SYNC+LOCK = Divisions of core BPM.
    • Phase reset: Per RE-TRIG selection. NONE = Phase resets naturally at end of Arp pattern. NOTE = Phase resets at any note on msg. 8BAR, etc. = Phase resets after selected duration. (Unconfirmed: Affected by LOCK? Affected by upstream resets?)
  • Arpoly: Three clocks tracking progress of each Arpoly pattern lane.
  • Euclid
  • Register
  • Echo
  • So many more…
