Big fan of the Hapax!
A way of input notes into the sequencer a la SH101 / Yamaha CS70 / Elektron’s ‘step input mode’ would be really amazing!
There must be a way of implementing it?!

you need to email them with requests, but that would be cool
I got an email from them asking for my opinion how to implement that. Here’s my suggestion! …
Just to be clear I’m referring to the encoders/sections of the screen on the Hapax in the following way:
1 2 (screen) 3 4
5 6 (screen) 7 8
Create a new effect (e.g. called ‘101 Sequencer’, ‘Step Input’ or whatever)
The top left part of the screen would indicate step number. This step could be chosen with encoder 1. For example, if after you input the notes you wanted to change that note. Otherwise it would simply step through from 1 - x
Encoder 5 would show total number of steps. Unless you specify the total step number this would go up as you input a note. This is important to have so you don’t lose track of how many steps you’ve programmed. Using the encoder to decide the maximum amount of steps would be quite useful. For example it would go back to the beginning when you’ve reached the last step, then each new step you input would replace what was already there.
Just to be clear, this would work best when the sequencer is paused. Like on the SH-101 / CS70.
Encoder 3 (or whichever) could be used to play a rest. So for example: Steps 1 - 2 - 3 you play a note from a MIDI keyboard (or from the Hapax Live mode pads), then turn the encoder to create a rest note for step 4. Each click would be a single step whose length would be decided by…
… Encoder 2 (or whichever) would let you choose the step resolution. So if you wanted each step/rest to be a 1/16 (presumably what people would use most often) or 1/32, 1/8, etc. you would decide that with this encoder.
Encoder 4 would work in a similar way to inputting rests but would instead be used for inputting accents …
Encoder 8 would let you specify what the MIDI velocity value the accents produce and encoder 7 would let you use specify what the standard MIDI velocity value for regular notes.
Lastly, encoder 6 would let you choose to input MIDI velocity with your MIDI keyboard or not. If MIDI velocity via the external input is enabled then perhaps only the accent feature continues to work.
Then, when you press play, all of the notes have been input to Hapax’s sequencer and the sequence plays just like it would on a SH101 / CS70 / Elektron box! The playback direction could be changed just like it was any other sequence as well.
How does that sound? let me know if anything is unclear! I tried to position the parameters on encoders near each other to make it more logical, hope you can see what I mean!
I wouldn’t use an effect for that, but rather a different track mode (Mono) and use the grid to enter notes were you define length, pitch, ties/glides and maybe even accents (although you could just use automation lanes for accents).
Well thought out request @huwfee and I agree with @Maarten that this is similar to the Mono Track many have requested in the past. See this thread: Feature request - MONO Sequencer Type - #6 by Steeldust
Of note, in this thread @Maarten mentions the idea of a velocity view for this proposed Mono mode, similar to velocity view in Drum tracks, where you could quickly change velocity of each step using the grid. I do like the idea of setting all accents to a set velocity using a knob, but also like the idea of being able to have varried accents using a velocity view or setting velocity on a per step basis using a knob.
So @huwfee i think what you’ve laid out here is a really solid design for the proposed Mono Track. I hope we see it implemented in the next firmware.
