Is there a way to set up a definition file for my modular so it’s automatically set to CV/GATE output? I thought it would be as simple as putting OUT:CV in the definition file instead of A, B, or USB but that did not seem to work.
I don’t really know, but I suspect the answer is no. I get the impression that the purpose of a definition file is more about giving you a way to name the note numbers so that they match the sounds of a particular MIDI instrument rather than (pre) setting up an instrument with an output (such as a MIDI output and channel). You’d need to specify the output and, I presume, MIDI channel for a MIDI instrument’s definition file so that it applied to just that instrument. So I think that is why the (MIDI) output is included in the definition file.
I imagine that it could have been possible to have the CV/GATE output as an option (I don’t really see any reason for them omitting it from the options other than that they possibly didn’t think there might be a need for it).
You could try saving a blank template project with a track (pre) set up for the CV/GATE output, then use that instead of a completely blank ‘NEW PROJECT’ to start your projects from. I think that should be possible.
