CV inputs unstable in "Settings -> Monitor"

Hi!
Just have received Hermod+ and I delighted with the design, the screen and the pads.
I noticed that the monitor is showing CV incoming signals and not cable is plugged. Attached you Will find a pic.

CVC is fixed value looks ok ; CVA, CVB and CVD vary slightly, B and C ± 0.002 and A +0.001.
How can I solve this?
Thanks for reading and your time.
Regards,
César.

Hi César,
Firstly, thanks for the kind words

For reference, the numbers shown are the measured voltages at the inputs, expressed in Volt, and on the right hand side, the closest MIDI note that voltage corresponds to is shown.

What does the observed variation translate to ?

Now, a slight variation at the input is to be expected, you’ll always have some amount of noise.
In the 1Volt per octave standard:

  • 1 V ► 12 semitones
  • 1000 mV ► 12 semitones
  • 1000/12 mV ≈ 83 mV ► 1 semitone

This means a variation of 1mV is roughly 1.2% of a semitone, which (to my knowledge) is very far from perceptible to the human ear.

So with regard to the observed variation in the order of magnitude of the mV, frankly I’d say “Dont worry about it”.

What about the constant offset ?

You’ve also probably noticed the variation is not precisely centered on zero Volts. B and D seem to be 10mV off center.

Given what we’ve shown before, that translates to roughly 10% of a semitone, so still probably not noticeable, but it’s not ideal.

If you’ve got a precise multimeter, you can re-calibrate the CV inputs and outputs of your Hermod+, which should get rid of the offset. The calibration procedure is detailed in the manual: Hermod+ Manual | Squarp instruments

TL;DR

Voltages not centered on 0V? Redoing the calibration can help.
Voltages vary in the magnitude of a mV ? Don’t worry about it.

Hi Thibault:
Thank you very much for the fast response and the in-depth explanation, very handy.
Will leave things as they are for now.
Have a great afternoon and thanks for your time.
Regards,
César
