Hello everyone,
I recently started to play around with Squarp Hapax, but what I really need is ability to create custom poly sequence, which would react to live play - start with higher/lower notes depending on which key is pressed on the synth. The connection is as follows for now: Synth1 → Hapax → Synth2. The idea would be as I press keys on Synth1, my custom live sequence would play out on Synth2. Is it doable on Hapax and how?
Many thanks for any advices
i think with the Routing FX . . . possibly? but i’m not as experienced with it as others to know exactly how that might work
I like your idea but this isn’t really possible on Hapax. The MIDI effects can certainly be complex enough to make it seem like custom sequences per key. It sounds like you want the OP-1’s Finger sequencer (which I would love to see replicated in other sequencers
).
Thanks a lot for the comment, but at least can Hapax play a single key “root note sequence” e.g if I press C it starts with C, if D it starts with D with other notes moving up/down accordingly? That would at least partially solve my goal.
this will be a main focus of a firmware currently being worked on for a euro module called O.R.N.8
its an open source thing. you can make your own hardware or you dont have to.
thats if you use eurorack, although the output is midi
Well, it seems that I found a solution - using ARPOLY effect. So basically you can define custom root note sequence up to 8 notes, which can be further customized in lanes - what notes to play and how fast if more than 1 key is pressed simultaneously. Leaving only one lane allows multiple root note sequences to be run in paralel - exactly what I was looking for!

Well, it is actually pretty straightforward:
- Press “Effects”, choose ArPoly
- Once added use knobs around left screen to set the 8 note scales from +64 to -64, or add effects such as “Jump”, “Off”, “Random” etc.
- Once it is done, press upper right knob near the left screen to adjust speed per lane, and each of 3 lane length. You can have first lane at 1/8, second at 1/16 etc. And you can set first lane as 8 notes, second as 2, and third as one. The second lane is activated by two keys pressed simultaneously, third - by three. Overall it makes interesting effects combinations. Additinal lanes can be disabled as well
- I prefer to use combo - scaler (to set note pattern to Locrian for example, then ArPoly, and ARP on top - so all together can create nice custom arpg sequences
In any case, this is already so much fun
