Controlling Hapax with other midi controller

I would like to control some parameters on my Hapax from my midi controller. I mainly want to mute or unmute specific tracks (Hapax requires two buttons press to mute or unmute so I’m looking for better solution to improve my flow). If there were other control options, I would consider them as well.

Unfortunately, I didn’t notice any information about this in the manual.

Hi @lutzfire

This is currently unsupported, but we intend to add this in the future.

Hapax requires two buttons press to mute or unmute

This is something we are working on improving, for what it’s worth.

It would be great to be able to control the Assign knobs with an external midi controller, since the encoders of Hapax are rather slow (they need multiple twists to go from 0 to 100%) and I prefer smooth pots/encoders to do things like filter sweeps. The encoders are perfect for dialing in precies values for the parameters within Hapax, but not great for controlling external gear.

However, if we could just map something like a Novation Launchcontrol to those parameters, that would be awesome!

since there are 256 possible patterns but only 16 of them can be active at once, and there are 16 row buttons, i think hapax should be made to have 17 controllers aimed at triggering those cells, each with a 1-16 value tied to the patterns in that column. then since there are 111 unused controllers left on that midi channel, they could be distributed among other functions as seen fit. this could even be extended to another midi channel. theres 16 channels each with 128 cc with a value of 0-127 each. once this is set up, thats a lot of control possible! imagine a second hapax with an instrument definition for the hapax! or maybe control from another sequencer with a much larger sequence loop size! maybe a cc assignment for project a/b and mute project too. theres never too much meta control if you ask me! i would love all the control i can get! that being said, its not a deal breaker. but if its not hard to do, why not go all the way to ridiculous? let us figure out how to make use of ridiculous control! i know i would make use. i loved lego as a child and i see this like that a little bit. every new kit was like more lego to build on the current capability of the collection. force multiplier! i seriously think people would love it. you would start a trend at least! oxi one would be forced to out do hapax and we would all win. then let the races begin! the one with the most ridiculous controllable setup wins!

apologies if its not as easy as i think it is.

You’ve put into words exactly what I’d like to see. If it could also use MIDI learn to quickly map the controller knobs to each assign, that would be amazing.
