Automation: hold step to record incoming cc

It would be really awesome if it was possible to add “parameter locks” to steps inside an automation lane by just holding a step and turning a knob on your synth - thus Hapax “learns” the incoming midi cc number AND last received value, which it will record to the step held at the moment the step is released.

It would be really convenient if you don’t even need to set the midi cc number first and Hapax creates a new lane automatically if there isn’t one already for the destination, similar to realtime recording.

This would make it much more convenient to set fixed values per step of multiple different parameters.

For sure this feature would be amazing, especially for things like a Kick step to reverse the play direction on the Digitakt with a single trig, just like an Elektron parameter lock.

Right now the automation lane workflow is not very convenient for this kind of usage. For example with MIDI CC 17 (Play Mode), you need to manually place the value before and after the step to emulate the same behavior as a real Elektron parameter lock.

Being able to simply hold a step and tweak a knob so Hapax automatically learns the CC number and records the value directly on that step would be a huge workflow improvement.

Hopefully the Squarp team can bring us something like this in a future update. Fingers crossed :slightly_smiling_face:

that is starting to sound like an elektron thing with the sound source onboard.

unfortunately, the automation lanes are not locked to events on the piano roll. if you move a note with micro timing, an ‘associated’ automation event does not move. they are separate engines unfortunately. when i need an automation event to move slightly, i can do it after i bounce to a sequencer that has a list editor or i can zoom way in in the automation editor.
