ASSIGN : no MIDI channel setting?

Am I missing something or the MIDI channel for ASSIGN MIDI output (CCs, PB,AT, PC,etc…) is tied to the default Track Channel ?
If it’s the case, can we expect to be able to set different MIDI channels for the 8 knobs ?
It feels weird that in a Drum Track (where I can have each Row going to a different channel) you can’t send CCs to each of the channels used.

in the matrix you can send to another channel and output

Thanks, but sorry, I don’t get what you mean.

go to the midi fx section then look at the left screen. there is a routing matrix. then check out the manual. you can route the track output to an additional channel and output. maybe it helps you?

Il talking about the assign screen where you have 8 customizable knobs that can send CCs.

Yeah it’s tied to current track’s midi channel. Should be configurable : +1

you cant set separate midi channels for knobs tied to a single track but you can send midi to additional out and separate channels with the matrix. maybe this gets you part way there? you decide. no sequencer i know lets you control cc on many different channels/outputs from a single track. use more than one track or use one device for drums like a sampler. put your drums on separate keys in the same instrument on a single channel. or maybe get an iconnect device and set up several midi filters to transform a single channel output to several midi targets.

That would be cool though. Imagine a sort of aggregate on drum tracks. So one could built a custom machine from different machines.

a well endowed midi filter will allow you to do just that, such as the device linked above in my last post

It’s just weird that you can set up a multichannel track to send notes to a drum machine that has 1 voice per channel but can’t send midi ccs on them from the same track. I mean, that would be nice.

Analog Rytm with scene mode can get you there, sending on auto channel i think. Need to check the manual for it.

why does sound control need to be from hapax? doesnt your sound device have control on it? AR has knobs yeah? failing that, there are also controllers, fader boxes, knob banks, etc

At first, I didn’t mention Analog Rytm.

In my case, I’m using a DNII, with the 8 first tracks loaded with drum sounds.
I want to control various FX sends or macros across these 8 tracks. And I’d love to have them all in one place. Within the Hapax track that control these 8 voices, that would be handy.

Yes sure but i meant ‘‘built in’’. It’s always possible to adds interfaces, but it’s not always convenient.

well having a highly configurable midi multi filter has always been a major asset when using midi gear or software. check out retrokits rk006 for some of that action or a used iconnectmidi2+ for cheap. itll get you what you want right now.

Yeah, I usually (and still mainly) work in Ableton Live, and I am quite fluent in M4L coding, so this has never been a problem.
Just trying to focus on a tiny hardware setup, so the less is the best. That’s at least my current goal.

i prefer to just tempo sync my drums to hapax, at the most, send some cc to control whatever. hapax is good for melodic elements and automations. reaper lets me tie almost anything to a midi note so i can write in a parameter modulation change several different ways. vcv rack makes this potentially deep for soft and hardware modules too. my music computer is right in my euro rack so to me it feels as minimal as possible. but im a plugin hound.

It’s a matter of taste and workflows.
Personally, I’ve tried very much for years to like boxes that produce sound and have their own sequencer, but I’m too picky about sequencers and dealing with pattern organization/project maintenance.
Also, I chose Hapax at first because of the ability to see 8 drum voices at once, and for the better ease to work with non 4/4 time sigs.

IMO this seems like it should be possible/allowed, same with automation. I would say send them a feature request.
