I bought a Zynthian 5.1 kit (8gb RAM & Pi5). Also have a BlueBox mixer and a MPC One+. How well you think a Hapax might complete a mini setup like that, to be used when travelling? No live performances in mind, just recording really, staying away from computer. People tell me to get a Deluge instead but the MPC One+ already does a lot of the heavy lifting (when not acting as the brain). So I suspect Hapax to be the better fit. Only concern is that perhaps my gear-list is too thin? (Thus the advice to go for a Deluge) Well, could toss in tiny MiniDexed and a Roland S1 too into the mix and still not break my back(pack) in terms of kilos.

My friend uses a MPC with a torso T1 external sequencer, the results are quiete good. I sequence my stuff with Hapax, and send him a slightly offeset clock, overall it works great. I would always choose the Hapax over the T1 (i want screen, and the setup with clips is much more beneficial for me.) But in general using the MPC as sound module is much better approach than sequencing it internally- the editing sucks to much on the MPC at least for my taste. I dont want to scroll and press mini note icons for editing. It was the main reason, why i sticked with creating songs in the DAW, or creating loops for my live setup. (Which is hapax + octa + syntakt and a prophet12)
i think hapax is much better than modern mpc for sequencing although i would capture a hapax sequence on my modern mpc. with hapax you get to play with midi fx and all manner of cool midi utilities. hapax has a great performance interface. modern mpcs do have a very nice sound and as a sampler or wavetable player they are probably the best value on the market, giving waldorf a run for the money. mapping cc is the major downside of modern mpc but there are ways around it if you have patience. im still going to get one when i can afford to. i had a force for a long time and i didnt hate it but its gone now. when mpc 3.9 was released i kicked myself lol! hapax is big enough for the entire backpack im afraid but it makes any old midi gear sooo much better imho

In its later versions it can do quite a lot, and im curious about how it would play with the Hapax (or Deluge).
It’s very cool - they’ve made it a lot more user friendly (and pretty). Using it with a launchpad mini, which provides a very hapax-like experience.
it’s still galaxies away from hapax when it comes to user friendliness, but the feature set (sampling, looping, lots of synths, portability) offers a lot more.
Currently using it as the brain of a second studio - while hapax is the brain of main studio. I hope to use it in a compact live setup
