Program Changes as CV out?

Some Eurorack modules have the ability to play/recall different sounds with a corresponding CV:

Is it possible to output Program Change Messages as a specific CV Voltage?

Thanks!

which modules?

Plonk, Zaps, Perkons Voice, Archers Rig, Pico Drums, 2HP Play, TipTop Audio One to name few, but there are for sure more…

i was unaware. are these all new modules?

what musical style are you into?

not really but well it depends how you define new..
difficult to classify but maybe something between IDM, Electro some Techno probably as well (Detroit/Ghettotech?): kind of floating around those genres

ghetto tech… roland r70 and any sampler. maybe dr550 or 660 or 770. i always thought casio cz-101 sounded plasticy, perfect for ghetto tech! those dr drum machines just need a little saturation and limiting! theyre awfully dry and clinical but if its good enough for kraftwerk… btw boss dr5 is also great for ghetto tech and ghetto house if it wasnt so noisy (had mine pimped with high end op-amps and better than audio quality aluminum caps and decoupling power from the audio buss-i didnt know this was a thing! no hum now tho!). of course dj assault is probably using an sp-1200. maybe mpc too. im sure hes got both. i used to be into making that kinda stuff. i used nanoloop ios for some pretty dope simple sounds and a take it anywhere groove box software. i think its well suited to ghetto tech/house.

i might also say dirtywave m8 is good for that sound too. and it pairs well with hapax automation, cc, pc. you do have to get used to it and the fact that its not meant to be used with only midi input but it works and sounds great. it can also easily record directly what is coming from the hapax. its as deep as you wana go honestly for 8 mono tracks. maybe not for everything. certainly a good place to make a beat with hapax

DJ Assault :star_struck:
thanks for the tips: I had a DR-550 back in the days as well

im currently focussing on a smaller setup, over the last years ive sold almost all of my midi equipment. to keep space tight I nowadays try to cover my needs mostly in euro

Back to the Topic:

does anybody out there have an idea/suggestion how this (PC as CV) could be achieved?

(of course i could just make a track with the appropriate note outputted as CV, but in this way Im wasting a track and more important im not able to use the advanced PC options the hapax offers…)

or may this just be another feature request?

any hints are very welcome!

I think you could achieve this by adding a CV Out automation lane to any track. Then for each pattern you place the CV that corresponds to the prog/patch on step 1, so as soon as you start the pattern it sends that voltage to switch the module’s prog/patch.

I’ve only had the Hapax for a few days and haven’t yet gotten into the program changes, so forgive me if this is too rudimentary and doesn’t produce the desired result.

Yeah that would be one of the obvious ways.

But as you noted it will be sent every cycle of the pattern (and tehrefore reset the module to the saved state).

So I wouldn’t be able to use the advanced features of the Hapax with PC messages. Maybe there are some ways (with effects?) to send it only once/the first time when the pattern plays (?) but I would have to check the out.

Thanks for the reply and im happy to hear other approaches if anyone has some.

Anyway if there aren’t any good solutions Im thinking to make a feature request for this.

gosh if you were using copperlan and you owned a few compliant modules this conversion would be directly possible. but thats old gear and an obsolete protocol! free tho! and quite useful if you is askin me
