OUTPUT but for Tracks?

Perhaps I’m missing something (probably!) but I’m looking for a way to send MIDI to different tracks, just like the Output effect (that sends MIDI to different MIDI channels) but to tracks instead of channels.

This way I can play multiple tracks live simultaneously based on chords from 1 track and then add effects like Arp, Euclid, Scale, etc., all in real time.

I know about the match chord feature but then you need to first have to add base notes to each track, no?

Is this possible with the Hapax today?

No, not possible short of connecting a midi output to midi input via cable. There is at least one other thread discussing this here.

While midi out to midi in sure is a workaround I would very much like this to be included in the output effect. I’ve submitted a feature request and hope they’ll implement it. It sure feels easy enough considering their level of competence.

I agree, is something I regularly find myself wanting and it is a conspicuous omission because the idea ties in so well with the track-level midi effects.

I’ve wanted this for a long time. I had it on another hardware sequencer and it was so creative. Would be a game changer for the Hapax, kind of like having a modular sequencer.

If using a midi cable, can you use up to 16 channels on the same cable? (So you could do this 16 times?)

Outside of using a midi cable, I’m wondering if you could send virtual cables to the DAW via usb and then send them back again to Hapax as inputs? This would be more effort imo.

I sent Squarp a feature request for the intertrack routing plus midi transpose:

1. Inter-track MIDI routing (effect/output option)
It would be powerful if tracks could send their MIDI output not only to external ports, but also directly into other tracks, like a MIDI effect routing layer. This would allow tracks to act as modulators or processors for others, opening up generative and performance workflows.

2. “MIDI Transpose” mode for tracks
A per-track setting where incoming MIDI notes act as transpose input, rather than note playback/recording, similar to how Track 16 can transpose sequences. Incoming notes would define the transpose offset, sequences would transpose in real time, and it would work while patterns play, ideally with quantization options.

Combined, these features would let any track act as a “transpose sequencer” for others, and enable advanced generative setups with multiple shifting harmonies, instead of being limited to only 1 track (Track 16).

Track 16 would remain the global transpose track.
