Midi In note incorrect timing

Hy I have timing problems when recording notes.

I have a very simple setup:

  • Empty Project
  • No quantize at all
  • Roland Fantom Midi Out to Hapax Midi In A
  • Hapax Midi Out A to Roland Fantom Midi In
  • Metronom on Midi A CH10
  • Hapax Clock Source (Internal)
  • Midi In Notes (Rec Only)
  • CC Messages (Rec Only)
  • Record on Track 1 Midi Out A 1 and Midi In A 1

When I now record one or more notes quarters / eight notes it doesn’t matter, the recorded notes have randomly incorrect timings. When I play a chord, 3 notes all notes have total different uTime like -35%, 0 % or even plus 10% mostly some notes are at Beat 1/8 and some on 2/8.

The Hapax is absolutely not recording any note correctly?

Do you have any Idea. The Hapax is new 1 Week old with the latest Firmeware.

is local off on your fantom?

any soft thru settings?

fantom sequencer set to internal?

Hi, thanks for your reply.

I have no thru settings,

I don’t use the sequencer together with the Hapax. I have actually no sync between the two devices. I want only recording midi notes into a pattern on the Hapax.

So the clock is on both devices “internal”

I tried with “local off” the problem is still there but!! I can here now the timing problem right as I play the notes! and only when I play more than one note at a time

I found the problem,

I had connected the fantom also to a Mac mini, as remove the USB connect the timing Problems are gone!!

The USB connection produce this clock issue inside the Fantom. I close the thread!

you need a ground loop filter for the usb connection with your mac mini and then problems will go away
