Hapax & the CME H12MIDI-Pro USB MIDI Router - extra MIDI and USB ports!

I was going to update my previous thread on this, but it’s been closed, so I shall start a new one.

I’ve had one of these now since April or so.. it’s basically a compact MIDI hub, with one USB master in/oput, 6 other USB in/outs, and 6 MIDI in/out. Fully programmable and route-able (with MIDI filtering and splits, etc.

For the price, this is a truly amazing bit of kit, and works perfectly with the Hapax in every way I wanted it to.

The MIDI ins and outs and the USB connections are all totally independent, so you can effectively connect 12 different instruments to the machine using a variation of USB and MIDI connections. Each port (6 M-in, 6 M-out, 6 USB in/out) can have their own rules allowing a lot of flexibility. Each port can be mapped to the Hapax’ virtual cables as well, so it plays nice with MPE.

I’ve got mine set up so that the Hapax goes into the Computer input of the H12MIDI Pro and then each virtual cable goes to a different port, with virtual cable 1 going to everything apart from Osmose, and then cables 2-7 going to individual instruments, and 8 going to everything again.

I only have my Nord G2 and Osmose plugged into the inputs, with the Osmose sending data to the Hapax, and my G2 sending data to the Hapax and my Prophet 6 (this is just because I’ve got to the Prophet 6 module, and the G2 is right below it, so I can just play those two together without turning the whole studio on)

This is the software showing the setup:

As I say, you can also filter on any input/output channel, which is very useful for removing clock signals from stuff that doesn’t use them:

And it also allows you to remap certain MIDI messages and even change the curves, although I’ve not used any of those, so cannot speak to it.

It also allows you to save 6 different setups in the unit itself (you do need a computer to edit them) so you can use it for live stuff or anything else that needs a different setup)

All in all it’s an amazing little box and I cannot recommend it enough. The only minor issue I had with it is that the USB port on the Hapax does not provide enough current to power the box, so you need a 9v Boss-style power supply as it doesn’t come with one itself. It also is TRS MIDI rather than 5-pin DIN.

I know a lot of people are angling for more inputs and outputs, and don’t think anything else comes close at this price.

Mine arrives tomorrow.

I have the H4MIDI WC and it works well, but the USB C ports on thie one will work better for my setup.

This is definitely a great find. I spent a long time hunting and waiting to find an MRCC by Conductive Labs. I ended up getting two XpandR units + a Remote7, bringing the total DIN IN to 13, DIN OUT to 15, plus several options to connect TRS instead of din for some of them. It also has 4 bidirectional usb midi host ports and one device port. I sent the device port to a usb hub connected to a Bome Box and it exposed 12 virtual bidirectional routes also.

So between the filters on the MRCC and the literal infinite rules of the Bome MIDI Translator, it was sure worth doing.

Problem is the MRCC is pricey, not stocked often, and is rare in the used market.
