Tried my own, tried using the file provided by Squarp, tried Ableton’s CV clock out tool. None work.

ok it works for many of us. what sound card are you using? is it a dc coupled interface?

I’m using a Focusrite, according to them it’s not DC coupled. But if DC coupling was a requirement wouldn’t the Hapax manual specify that?

its common knowledge that cv signals are are only possible from dc coupled interfaces. try setting the level higher, even clipping. try your headphone output if you have one. someone else who has done this successfully will chime in.

Tried all that. Both CV and Midi drift out of sync at about the same rate. I guess I’ll just resign myself to not syncing the Hapax with Live, but that wasn’t a primary purpose for it anyway.

Completely agree. Hapax used to be my master and it worked but it was inconsistent. So much more reliable and tight when ableton just tells my hapax and all downstream hardware to start/stop.

This solution squarp provided is incredible and instantly made my recording sessions easier. Im an idiot w ableton and hard headed so if i can do it anybody can.

I configured it as described in the manual (testing with ableton and Bitwig, same results).
Using the Audio file setting up HAPAX as described works for start/stop and sending sequences to an external synth and recording the audio from the ext. synth into the DAW.
But sending the HAPAX sequences back to the DAW and recording to a Midi clip always ends up with the notes being late.
I really want to use HAPAX as brain and my only sequencing tool. Therefore I’m looking for a solution to record those sequence into the DAW to use soft-synths.
Is there any way or do I miss anything here?

Sending the clock to a Hapax’s CV input is a great approach only if you have an interface with DC coupled I/O, but now you can use the new **virtual cables** feature in the beta firmware to setup a virtual cable **exclusively** for midi tempo. Just setup Ableton to send clock into a specific hapax port ( lets say device port 16) and then setup the hapax to receive the clock from that virtual cable. This way you’ll have a dedicated and, in theory, jitter free midi clock signal.

thanks for the hint, I’ll give it a try tomorrow.
so far as I know the Babyface is DC coupled - the sync to the Ableton start/stop is working, just the other way round (sending midi to ableton) not.

The Babyface outputs are DC coupled, just not the inputs.

Is it just the MIDI signal from the Hapax into the DAW that has some latency? If so you may want to try the Compensation functionality. If it’s the audio, you can adjust buffer size or compensation in your DAW.
