Enabling recording on hapax

Hi peeps,

Currently trying to get my workflow sorted…

My Setup:

  • Logic Pro synced to Hapax via CV clock
  • Launchkey 61 MK3 connected via USB to Hapax
  • MIDI from Launchkey routed to Logic via MOTU M6
  • Dream is to record MIDI sequence on Hapax and audio from synth into Logic simultaneously

What I’m Trying to Do:
Use the Launchkey’s Record button (sends MIDI CC117) to start recording on BOTH Logic and Hapax with no pre-roll - one button press, both devices recording in perfect sync.

The Problem:

  • Logic: Works perfectly! I can map CC117 to “Record Toggle” in Key Commands → Learn by Control Surface
  • Hapax: Doesn’t seem to support MIDI CC for transport control (record/play/stop)

I’ve checked:

  • 2nd + SETTINGS → MIDI settings
  • Looking for transport/remote control options
  • Can’t find any way to assign MIDI CC to trigger recording

Questions:

  • Does Hapax support MIDI CC for transport control at all?
  • Is there a hidden menu or firmware setting I’m missing?
  • Has anyone found a workaround for triggering Hapax recording via MIDI?
  • Should I just go back to using Logic’s pre-roll and matching Hapax countdown duration instead?

The goal is simple: press one button on my keyboard, both devices start recording simultaneously. Seems like it should be possible but I’m stuck!

Any help appreciated!

Cheers

Agree would be nice to have that flexibility to turn on/off transport on the hapax for sure thanks for the reply least I know what the limitations are currently and work accordingly

Sync to external source does not work ?

i believe he wants to punch in / punch out

Unfortunately logic only wants to be master

When I set punch in on hapax I cannot use pre-roll on logic.. Hapax stops recording when it receives start of bar in logic..

Only option is to run as to manually set Hapax to record and then start logic transport (no pre roll)

Problem here is that it’s hard to be ready to record and start logic transport..

One solution would be to use transport via cc of midi keyboard but have to manually set Hapax to record on..

Much better would be for hapax record on to be set when I press transport on midi controller…so it simultaneously starts logic and Hapax..

Work flow I was trying to achieve was

With keyboard connected to hapax press record on the transport..

Logic starts with pre-roll (metronome)

Starts recording on both

hapax (midi)

Logic (audio)

Punch in on logic and Hapax
