Drum tracks on Instrument Definition confusing me. Any guru please advice me

Hiya mate,

Yes I agree with your view on the Cirklon. Very well put.

Yep FM synthesis well worth a look especially the newer stuff that makes editing much easier. Open to even idiots like moi.

However my fav at the mo has to be my Waldorf M. Its a reboot of the old Microwave with nice Analogue filters. Like a updated version of the XT I think it was called. Well im well engrossed in mine anyhow. Plays very nice with the Hapax too.

Nothing wrong with looking young mate. Wish someone would insult me by saying I looked 12 on a recent photo ha. More like 112 for me gasp!

Did you sell your Cirklon then? I honestly do not understand how there still going? I was seriously underwhelmed around7 years ago. Like I was saying the competition then was an MPC and that was that. Now the options are immense by comparison. And I realy feel the Hapax to top pick right now and they way they implemented V2 for free, for a long time yet

i was diggin jjosxl on mpc 2500. also zaquencer was super fun and intuitive. sold the cirklon after waiting 18 months and the time it took to accessorize it. i really wanted to like it because it looks badass but it just wasnt intuitive without manualing. i like stuff that you can use easily and refer to the manual when you want to go deeper. thats just hapax.

theres plenty of elitist cirklon curious ready to bask in the glow they get knowing theyre so precise and so far above what the rest of us use. did you know the timing of cirklon is thee most ridiculously devoid of jitter? yeah and it means youre more legit than other guy dj and that youve made the grade. its all down to the bloke if im honest tho. i dont blame anybody for liking it.

Iā€™m approaching forty ten in a few months. I wonder if we underestimate the age of our fellow users? This is a luxury hobby after all. Nothing wrong with that, but youā€™re probably going to be in a more financially secure place in life if you are dropping over a grand on the sequencer alone.

Yā€™all got me feeling young at 43!

Itā€™s nice to know there are some older folks out there making electronic music. And why wouldnā€™t there be? Electronic music in its oldest sense is like what, 70 years oldā€¦ maybe even older? And techno, drum and bass, jungle, etc are all over 30 years oldā€¦ pioneered by folks who are in their 50s and 60s now. Perhaps the face of pop music, where most electronic music is being seen, is young people. Itā€™s great to see that electronic music isnā€™t just a fad and that it has been adopted and incorporated into nearly every genre of music imaginable. So keep on keeping on all you old timers and pick up the reigns all you youngsters! I canā€™t wait to hear what you all create next! :v:t3::heart:

JJOS was awesome mate. To me the best hardware sequencer there was until Hapax came along. I also liked the the fact JJ broke away from Nu Akai (Numark who bought Akai) and kept updating (still to date) the MPC 2500. I would argue the 2500 the best MPC of all time. Of course someone gonna tell me the 1988 60 or 1992 3000 far better but they wernt. So limited by comparrisons. So then they bang the sound quality drum.

EDIT Ooops more posts since I replied. Above ment for @solipsvs

@dstengle haha Forty ten class. Love it.

@Cyclopticowl Excellent post mate. Wholeheartedly agree. Well put. 100%

Iā€™m 50 but with my hapax I feel like 20 predominant beast again

Right fellow Oldsters. Got another Q

If I want to make an instrument def for a multitimbral synth (Korg m1r in this instance) how do I asssign the OUTCHAN? Say I want to use all 8 multitimbral parts?

Do I have to do a definition per part? Or is there a way of doing one definition for all 8 parts?

use a single definition for all parts, just set each track to a specific channel.

Hiya mate. Could you elaborate plse mate.

What would I set OUTCHAN too?

Then I guess I just load up the same definition to all parts and se the acctual channel manually?

Never done that yey, most of my gear Monotumbral.

You got it. Just set the channel after you load the instrument definition. I do this for multiple synths. You could make separate defs and the advantage I could see with that is having the channel in the name.

Right. Thanks mate got it. Thank you :+1:

I know this was a while ago but just responding to your Q at the bottom -

The reason is some drum machines receive each instrument on a different midi channel rather than on a different note.
Some will even allow you to play each instrument chromatically (pitched) , so although you canā€™t do that with hapax drum tracks, you still need to be able to send each instrument to a different channel in the case of some gear.
