The handling could be as simple as 2ND+Row arrow button. Would be great too.
Also more drum lanes would be as easy as shifting the arrows up and down just like on any melodic pattern.
I understand that more drum lines requires a more substantial rewrite for Hapax and so may not be as easily achievable as some may think.
When I first got the Hapax, I would have been in the 16-drum lanes camp, for sure.
But honestly, now that I’ve gained some perspective on this machine, I don’t think I would use a second page of drum lanes.
I’ve been using Poly tracks, in Step mode, to sequence larger drum racks, more or less to the same effect (save a couple of unique tricks that Drum tracks offer, like the Velocity view, different MIDI channels per lane, and the Every N algo).
However, as a result, the one thing I’ve come to appreciate most about the Drum tracks, by comparison, is being able to see ALL of my lanes at once, color coded, and neatly labeled.
As such, while there’s no harm that I can see to adding more drum lanes, this particular request has fallen way down the priority list for me.
That said, the ability to change the length of each lane, on the other hand.. I’d definitely use the hell out of that.
Cheers!
Fair enough, and understand the workaround - I’m sure it works well. I also think that having 2 pages of drum lanes may be a little unintuitive so I’m going to try out a 16x16 pad workflow with the Reliq. It will be interesting to use Hapax and Reliq back to back to see which fits best.
This would be the most elegant and customizable solution!
@squarp guys will we see something like this?
Yeah seen this over in elektronauts to, looks interesting although what I’ve really wanted was to have varying play head lengths I can live with 8 drum lanes. Oh well.
non-public beta per this post
I hope we get to use it soon! The 16 lanes of drums is the first request I put in, so it’s exciting that it’s finally coming to fruition
16 tracks coming wowwwwwww
also this is wowwwwwww
Effect Automation Recording: When recording is enabled in Effect mode, rotating an FX parameter encoder will now actively create and record events directly into Autom mode.
Sorry, that was my post on the Elektronauts forum - I’m ‘Jimbo’ on there. Gauging by some of the responses, I shouldn’t have posted this, especially as I already sold Hapax a while back. I just felt it was great news that 16 drum lanes had now been provided and so was excited to share this as so many folk have been requesting this for quite a few years now.
I’ll never get to try it out now, haha ![]()

Still haven’t needed 16 drum lanes in any track I’ve ever written
And ppl who git rid of their hapax bcz it didnt have sixteen lanes are not serious people
There I said it! ![]()
kick snare 3x tom clap chh ohh
Time for a crash? No
Toms rarely used
Im just being a bit pokey anyway. Im sure some need more than 8.
soooo stoked about 16. it’s easy to get more than 8. my setup:
4 are triggers for a sampler
3 kick/tom options (each is flexible)
2 snare (rim/head)
2 hat (open/closed)
2 symbols (edge mid)
1 atonal voice (kinda like a dialup tone thing)
1 noise
1 accent that can be applied to a few of the above
With that I can have my Syntakt (12 channels) on 1 track instead of 2, this is priceless !! ![]()
