Hi Squarp team and everyone,

Are there any plans, or an existing way, to read and write Hapax MIDI patterns programmatically, ideally targeting a specific track and pattern slot?

I developed [MIDIjourney](https://github.com/pollinations/MIDIjourney), a tool for Ableton Live that generates and transforms MIDI through conversation with AI. I’m now exploring a similar workflow with Hapax: capture its MIDI output as musical context, generate or modify a phrase, then audition it through Hapax and record it back when it fits. The app follows external clock, keeping Hapax central to the setup.

Live recording is a useful starting point, but being able to retrieve an existing pattern, modify it, and send it back would make the interaction much more fluid. It could also open up possibilities for external editors and other generative MIDI tools.

Could this work through USB MIDI/SysEx or another interface? If direct access isn’t possible, is there documentation for the saved project/pattern format that could help with offline editing?

I’d love to understand what’s possible today and whether this is something you’d consider supporting.

Thanks!
