I understand your frustration, my MKI had a problem with LIVE button, it would sometimes switch to Live button from any other function and since I was/am new to Pyramid, it confused me even more, because I thought I was doing things wrong, like holding the button too long etc…and all that for some microscopic dirt on contact, causing it to switch and drive me crazy 
The MKII is spotless perfection.
FIXED!!
After some correspondance with Squarp I’ve recalibrated the touchpad and I have no issues at all. Holding down encoder 2 when turning it on makes it boot into a touchpad testing mode. Apparantly this also recalibrates which cleared teh issue. Holding other encoders boots into other test modes too.

ah yes I encountered this bug too (it’s 2019 now) and submitted it this morning. After that I found this thread where you mention this exact same bug. Even your workaround is the same I came up with
